Costessey Skate Park
Thanks to a significant grant from Norfolk Environmental Waste Services (NEWS), the Breckland Hall Recreation Ground at Costessey, near Norwich, now has a state-of the-art half-pipe skateboard ramp, complete with grind rails, surfacing, signs and spectator bench seating.
Opened in July 2000, this project was commissioned by Costessey Parish Council to provide facilities for 12-16 year olds. Rachel Jackson, Costessey Parish clerk, said "We are extremely grateful to NEWS for the money they have contributed to what we feel is a very important community project".
David Beadle, managing director of NEWS, commented "We are delighted to be involved in funding this community project through the landfill tax credit scheme. It is particularly rewarding to be able to offer local teenagers a safe place to spend their free time."
The project was funded by a grant of nearly £33000 from NEWS through the landfill tax credit scheme and environmental body Environmental Projects Agency. Other contributors included Kettle Foods, Mr K Shortis, Dipple and Conway Opticians, Aldred and Sons Fencing, Bell Electrical, Harveys Funeral Home, Mrs J Lewis, N G King Builders, Plug and Socket, Mr R Thompson, Mrs F Dibley, Ipswich and Norwich Co-op Society Ltd, May Gurney Group Ltd, Mrs F Li and Miss M Nicholl.
