| Grants for Norfolk nature reserve £quarter million refurbishment project project is underway at the RSPBs Titchwell Marsh Nature Reserve. This is thanks to generous grant aid that recognises the value of the reserve to the local economy in north Norfolk. The project will upgrade and improve the visitor facilities and the wildlife experience at Titchwell Marsh. A covered eating area, extended and refurbished retail floor space will be complemented by upgraded interpretation both at the visitor centre and out on the reserve. Work will be undertaken to improve access and parking, including improvements to the surface of paths. Energy saving elements will include the installation of a photo-thermal water heating system to the toilet block and geo-thermal heating system to the visitor centre. |
Funding from the Environmental Projects Agency using Norfolk Environmental Waste Services (NEWS) landfill tax credits will help to fund the covered eating area, improved interpretation and carpark and footpath surfaces.
The north Norfolk Coast attracts several million visitors each year, drawn in by the stunning landscape and wildlife, the peace and quiet, and the wide variety of activities available. Tourists are a vital component of the areas economy. It was estimated in a recent study that visitors to Titchwell nature reserve spend around £1.81m per year in the local area, and support 39 direct and indirect Full Time Equivalent jobs. Some local product and service providers to the reserve rely upon the reserves business to survive and are dependent on the numbers of visitors attracted to the reserve. |
