Project Status

The Greenleaf project was initiated in April 2001 and is on target for its first year of field trials. The following summarises the project's key stages to date:

Initial Scoping Study. This ADAS report considered the feasibility of using green-waste compost in agriculture and confirmed that funding should be sought for a large-scale trial covering a range of Norfolk soils and crops.

Protocol produced. ORA looked in detail at trial designs and these were approved for funding.

90% funding. The project was approved by ENTRUST for funding under the Landfill Tax credit scheme. NEWS agreed to make these funds available.

Third party funding. This was secured from Norfolk County Council for the first year of the project.

Trial farms selected. Norfolk farmers were invited to apply for inclusion in the project and farms were selected from each District Council, representing a range of soil types growing key crops.

Trial sites surveyed. Suitable fields were chosen as trial sites and marked out, each with four trial plots to be treated at varying application levels.
Compost delivered and application proceeding.
Autumn crops sown.
Preliminary trial completed.
